Sugar Cane Stables currently has 4 two year olds in-training, all have shown promise and continue to train forwardly for their summer debut!

Normarae's Payday by Rainmaker out of Trick er Treat, should be the first to take the track. She's got one more work and will be entered. The new book at La. Downs is pretty light on races that fit her conditions but we'll get her in a race sometime in August.

Bobbi's Gamble by Golden Slew out of MY K P, should be ready late August - early September. She's worked well and continues to do what is asked in the mornings.

Geaux Cat Geaux by Storm Day out of Twilight Tango posted his first official work today, he did fine and will get some company next time out. Look for him to also make this debut in early September.

Franchise Maker by Storm Day out of Miss Glaring could be the best of them all but is developing a bit slower and we are taking our time to get him ready. Look for him to make his debut at Delta Downs in early November.

Captain James C make Debut

Captain James C showed complete professionalism in his debut at Delta Downs on Friday night January 14th. Breaking from the 10 post he struck the lead and held it until mid-stretch. Going a mile against open company, Captain was the only first time starter and looked much the best. We are very proud of his effort and look forward to his future races. This is a very exciting time for Sugar Cane Stables as Bk's Glaring and Captain James C are now both being conditioned at Delta Downs under the supervision of Brian House. CJ and BK are the first two homebreds of Main Street Thoroughbred Group and have been together since they were born.

We expect Captain James C to make his debut in the next couple of weeks. He is more than ready physically but we've taken some extra time with his schooling.

Bk's Glaring is galloping and should debut in late spring. She is a model citizen in the barn and has shown to be very trainable in the morning.

In addition to CJ and BK, we have two of our yearlings being broke and two more going to the breaking farm in a couple of weeks.

Captain James to take on Delta Downs

With the close of the Louisiana Downs meet on September 26th, Brian House along with his stable with move to Delta Downs for the winter. Our outstanding 2 year old homebred Colt Captain James C is ready to make his debut as soon as the meet opens October 27th.

Brian has always held Captain in high regard and today said he ready to take on all comers at Delta Downs. We are expecting big things from this Leestown colt, he was the first foal Main Street Thoroughbred Group bred and named after one of our partners brother.

Carbon Blue runs second 8-26-2010

Carbon Blue ran a very respectable second going a mile in his first attempt at winners. He had trouble out of the gate and a bit of traffic entering the lane but was moving very strong at the wire. He has proven to be a distance horse and is bred to run all day. We were very please with his effort.

Unfortunately he was claimed out of this race and will now race under the direction of Carl Deville. We are proud of Carbon's accomplishments and wish him continued success as he moves forward with his new connections.

Carbon Blue's Next Race

Carbon Blue's next race will be on Thursday night 8/26 at 9:16 cst. He is entered in the 9th race going 1 mile.

This spot should be a good one for Carbon and he should be the co-favorite at odds of 3:1. He had his final tune up yesterday working 4 furlongs under heavy wraps and going just over 49 seconds for the trip.

Captain James works for debut

Our 2 year old colt Captain James has been prepping under the guidance of Brian House since early April and is looking the athlete we anticipated. Hopefully he will debut in late September at Louisiana Downs. Thus far all systems are go, he has remained strong, sound and determined. This past Sunday he worked 3 furlongs with several very well bred 2 year olds and took them to task.

Our trainer has said repeatedly that Captain James would be much more of a horse than Carbon Blue and all indications are that he will. CJ has a lot of natural speed and is well bred. He should be very versatile on the track.

Thursday July 29, 2010 was a big day for everyone associated with Sugar Cane Stables. Carbon Blue made his return to the races after changing trainers and being off for 130 days. Brian House started from scratch with Carbon and got him ready to run both physically and mentally. With top jock up John Jacinto, Carbon did everything asked crossing the finish line 8 3/4 lengths ahead of second place finisher Nibbles and Bits.

Carbon Blue came out of the race outstanding and should make his next start in 3 weeks. His next start gets a little tougher going against older horses with non-winners of 2 but we still expect him to improve off his maiden win.

In early September he will move back to Louisiana Downs and should get at least one start over the Bossier City track prior to the end of the meet on Sept. 26th.

Now that I've been in the Winner's Circle, I hope to see a lot more people in the Winner's Circle real soon.

Carbon Blue works 6

Carbon Blue continues to train forwardly in his return. Today CB covered 6 furlongs handily from the gate in 118.20. We are very pleased with this work and this should be his last before being entered sometime in the next 10 days.

Carbon has not raced since making March 20th and has been training under the care of Brian House at Louisiana Downs since Delta Down's meet ended. We gelded him in late April and he had a minor respiratory infection a couple of weeks ago but thus far Carbon has remains strong and professional.

Brian has done an awesome job leaving nothing to chance in prepping Carbon for his return to the track. We are expecting a very productive summer from Carbon Blue!

Moving North for the Summer!

Our promising 3 year old colt "Carbon Blue" and our 2 year old colt "Captain James" have both relocated to Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, Louisiana. We are expecting big things from our runners this summer. Look for Carbon Blue to return to racing in Mid-May with Captain James hopefully making his debut in July.

Brian House has taken over training duties for our horses. He is having a very good year with wins in Louisiana, Texas and New York in past 30 days.

Major Changes

As of March 18th we restructured our training and plans for all our horses going forward. Brian House is the new trainer of Carbon Blue and Captain James. These two colts will move with Brian and his team to Louisiana Downs for the summer campaign. We are extremely delighted that Brian House is our new trainer. He is an excellent horseman and brings exceptional individual attention to all of his athletes. His performance and win percentage speak volume about Brian's program.

It should be a great year for all of our athletes and owners. Louisiana Downs opens on Saturday May 1, (Derby Day) It would be a great accomplishment if we could get our first win on Derby Day even if its at Louisiana Downs and not Churchill Downs.

Our plan is to have 4 horses in training the remainder of the year so we should have a very active summer.

Let the big man roll!! Carbon Blue will return to racing Saturday night at Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana. This is the race we wanted so now it's time to see if we've got contender or pretender!

Carbon Blue will break from post position 1 going 1 mile in an open company Maiden Special Weights event. With only 9 going from the post and us getting a ground saving trip, we are extremely excited about this opportunity.

Last night at Delta Downs was a glimpse of the future and an end to a chapter for Sugar Cane Stable's owners and athletes.

Carbon Blue continued to show solid improvement in his third lifetime start finishing 3rd beaten 4 lengths. We have a big horse running at a very small track and it takes him a while to get going but just as he has done in his first 2 starts he finished with an extremely strong kick. At a track where front running speed is king, Carbon Blue is doing just fine. We are hopeful Carbon will make one more start at Delta prior to the end of the meet on March 20th. Everyone should be extremely proud of Carbon Blue and what the future might hold.

The first chapter of our racing program began with Promissory Kid, a horse with a troubled past. The team showed great patience and investment while attempting to get him in the winners circle. After 11 months we've decided to send him back to the farm to enjoy and reflect.

Last night he finished last going 5 five furlongs and just did not show the commitment to competition needed for a thoroughbred.

Saturday Night Racing for Sugar Cane Stables

Let's hope Saturday Night is the right night for our athletes as they both return to racing at Delta Downs. Carbon Blue with stretch out to 1 mile and Promissory Kid will turn back to 5 furlongs. It has been difficult finding a race for both horses but Delta Down this week went from 10 races per card to 11 races per card and increased purses 30%. This could aid in getting both horses another start prior to the end of the Delta meet on March 20th.

Carbon Blue looks to be in a good spot with his main competition coming from Hackberry-he finished 3rd to Carbon's 4th in his last race. Our goal is for Carbon Blue to improve with an in the money finish. Stretching out to 1 mile could be a big plus for Carbon as he will be closing very strong.

Promissory Kid will turn back from 6 1/2 furlongs to 5 furlongs and draws the 5 post. He has the speed to cover the short distance. He will need a clean break and race to show his potential. Our goal for him is to earn his first paycheck by running a professional race and coming home healthy.

If all goes well Sugar Cane Stable's athletes and owners could have a big night.

Promissory Kid to race Wed. Jan 27, 2010

Promissory Kid returns to racing tomorrow night at Delta Downs. This is the same race and conditions he was scratched from on Dec. 19th due to problems in the gate. He has had plenty of action in the gate since and has a clean bill of health. Our goal is for Promissory to make the gate, break and hit the wire in full stride.

While training and in the barn, Promissory Kid has always been a professional athlete. He needs to pull everything together mentally in order show his true ability. Please join us wishing Promissory Kid all the best tomorrow night.

Next Generation Begins Training

BK's Glaring (Gray) & Captain James 06/09

Our next generation of racing prospects left the farm today to begin Phase I of their training. These two fine homebreds represent our first two prospects that were bred and raised at our farm. They both have very good conformation and strong, independent spirit.

Upon completion of Phase I, they will return to the farm for about 60 days to develop both mentally and physically before going to the track. We hope that they will both make their racing debuts mid-summer.

It has taken us a while to build our stable and are really proud of the foundation we've created for our ownership group. In 2010, we could have up to 4 horses running on a continuous basis.

For me personally this is like sending your kids off to college, "you hope they pass and go onto earn they keep, otherwise you just end up supporting them forever."

Carbon Races and Kiddo Has a Workout

Carbon Blue finished 4th tonight covering 6 1/2 furlongs at Delta Downs. He showed improvement and promise as he encountered some traffic trouble in the first turn. He knew he was in a race tonight and showed a lot of heart finishing strong. We expect him to be in the winners circle very soon.

Carbon Blue Take 2

Carbon Blue will make his second start Thursday January 14, 2010 at Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana. This is a Maiden 25K for Louisiana Breds going 6 1/2 Furlongs which should be an outstanding opportunity for our young 3 year old colt.

In his last outing Carbon broke slowly and spotted a very strong open company field several lengths in a short 5 furlong race. He came back two weeks later and posted an outstanding bullet workout going from the gate with 3 other horses. He came strong from the gate in this follow-up workout so hopefully he learned something and will improve in this race.

Our first trip to the winners circle would be a great way to start the New Year.

Carbon Blue post big workout

Carbon Blue our two year old colt posted a bullet workout at Delta Downs going 4 furlongs over a muddy track on Wed. Breezing from the gate with 3 other horses Carbon recorded a time of 49.60 and was the only horse of 14 to break the 50 second barrier. This is his first posted time since his 5th place finish on December 19th. We should know more about his next race on Friday. He appears to be very fit and ready to make his second start.

In addition, Promissory Kid was given gate clearance on Tuesday. He will get a couple of days away from the gate and then determine his next race. We are pleased with his progress and hope to see him racing within a couple of weeks.

January could be a very positive month for our stables and all of our owners.

Good News and Horse News

Saturday Night was one of extreme highs and extreme lows but in the end our stable was much stronger.

It started with Carbon Blue our two year old colt going 5 furlongs in his first start. He broke slow from the gate but came back and finished 5th beaten by 6 1/2 lengths. This was a very competitive race and we were very pleased with Carbon's overall performance.

In the night cap, Promissory Kid was suppose to run in the 10th but was scratched at the gate. It was a very nervous time for all of us as he loaded first and was doing fine. After a couple of minutes he raised up hung his bridal on the gate and went to his knees. We were all stunned. They had to back the other horses out and opened the gate. Promissory Kid was caught under the front of the gate. It looked traumatic but in the end he was fine.

Now the Racing Begins

Sugar Cane Stable's Carbon Blue and Promissory Kid will be entered in separate races Saturday Night December 19th. We will not know all the official details and if they draw in until next Wed. Once official we will update the Race numbers and times. Both horses will run at Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana just outside of Lake Charles. If you wish to watch the races you can view them live at the link below or via TVG Network. If you wish to attend the races live, Delta Downs is a full service Racino with a hotel attached.

Our trainer Amos Laborde believes both are live horses and have a legitimate shot at winning. This is very exciting as both have been training exceptionally and Amos is winning at a pretty high rate over the past 30 days. Maybe we will get an early Christmas Present.

Carbon Blue works 4 from the gate

Carbon Blue took another step towards his maiden debut this morning covering 4 furlongs from the gate in 51 seconds. It was pouring down rain but Carbon still got his turn to shine as he and 4 other horses trained over the Delta Downs strip.

Carbon broke slowly as this was his first official work from the gate but quickly reeled in the other horses to finish strong. Ridden for the first time by Edwin Maldanodo, Carbon really impressed the seasoned jockey. "Other than the poor break he showed a lot of maturity and he has a lot of speed!" expressed Maldanodo.

We are very pleased with this colts progress and believe he is going to be an accomplished athlete for SCS. He should get a couple more works and then make his debut in early December.

Promissory Kid should breeze 3 furlongs on Tuesday and he is doing very well training for his return to the races.

Carbon Blue Breezes 4 Furlongs on 10/22

Carbon Blue breezed 4 furlongs on the Delta Down Main Track Thursday 10/22. He had Josh Romero aboard and went with another 2 year old. This was a very professional work over a muddy surface. He handled the distance and trip outstanding! Both the trainer and jockey were very pleased with the work. Carbon has been training extremely well and is right on track to race in late November.

Carbon Blue goes Three Furlongs on Saturday

Carbon Blue breezed Three Furlongs Saturday October 10th at Delta Downs. He had a masterful work and was extremely professional. In his first breeze at Delta, Carbon showed the promise we expected. He accelerated when asked, changed leads on cue and finished strong down the lane. At this time we have not seen an official time for yesterdays work but will research to determine what his time for the work was.

We are very pleased with Carbon Blue and feel he is the type of horse that will provide lots of excitement for our team!

Carbon Blue Moves to Delta Downs

Tomorrow Carbon Blue will transfer to Delta Downs and begin training on the main track in preparation for his 2 year old debut in 6 - 8 weeks. This is a very exciting time for everyone at Main Street Thoroughbreds and Sugar Cane Stables. For the past 81 days, Carbon Blue has been under the care of Donald Balthazar and performed professionally every step of the way.

Carbon Blue is a very big 2 year old colt by Storm Day and Unfounded Luck. He was bred in Louisiana and purchased at the Evangeline Downs 2 year olds in training sale earlier this spring.

Carbon Blue breezes

Carbon Blue completed 60 days of training with a 1 furlong breezes under the tack of Donald Balthazar. Carbon is extremely professional and wants to workout everyday. The plan will be to breeze 2 furlongs next Friday and then breeze 2 or 3 furlongs the following Friday. On the 26th he will move to Delta Downs to begin the next level of training under Amos Laborde. We are very pleased with the development of Carbon Blue and believe he is a special horse. He should debut in Mid-November.

Kiddo Blow's Turn first out.

Promissory Kid showed his athleticism as well as his inexperience in his first race on Saturday night. After a tough break he made his way up to 5th just a couple of lengths off the lead and then blew the turn heading for home. Our Jockey Josh Romero said afterward he thought the race was his to win just before failing to change leads and completely blowing the turn.

Today as precautionary measure we had both legs x-rayed, all were negative but Kiddo did have a pretty good knot on his right shin. It is our opinion that he either hit the gate or got kicked in his shin early in the race.

PK has the will to win and the ability to win. He gets a bit of a break as the meet ends at Evangeline tomorrow and the stable will be moved to Delta Down on Sept 17th. The Delta meet opens mid-October.

8 Days to Racing Debut

As of today all systems are go for Promissory Kid to make his racing debut on Sept 5th at Evangeline Downs. This is a big day for everyone at Sugar Cane Stables, officially this is our first race as an organization. Kiddo will go 6 furlongs in a Maiden Claiming Race. Although we cannot guarantee a win, we are confident that Kiddo will show his competitive nature and perform well. We will get him entered on Wed and should know whether he makes the race by Thursday morning. I will post race analysis for everyone on Thursday night.

Promissory Kid breezed from the gate over 1/2 mile in a very respectable 50 seconds. This should be his final major prep for his first race. We will find out tomorrow how he came out of the work and what the next steps will be. Hopefully he will make a race on Labor Day at Evangeline Downs. September 7 is the last day of the meet and if we don't make the race he could get into a race at Louisiana Downs in Mid-September. Either way we are very excited about the opportunity ahead.

Promissory Kid Works at Evangeline

Promissory Kid worked 4 furlongs at Evangeline Downs yesterday. Although his time was not blistering his effort was pleasing to our trainer Amos Laborde. Kiddo did not have his regular jockey on-board and was ridden under a tight hold by the exercise rider. He will work 5 furlongs next week and continues to move up the conditioning ladder. We are getting close to his first race and very excited about his progress.

Promissory Kid delivers another solid work

Promissory Kid worked 3 Furlongs at Evangeline Downs today in 38:00. This was another consistent work and should position him to take the next step with a maiden race in his immediate future. With a couple more works, he should make is debut in late August or at the very least by the end of the Evangeline meet on Sept. 9th.

Promissory Kid Breezes in Louisiana

Promissory Kid breezed for the first time since Mid-May. Amos Laborde sent Kiddo out for a 3 furlong work in 37.80 and was 13/24 at Evangeline Downs. This was a good work for Kiddo to build upon. Hopefully he comes out of the work healthy and continues to progress.

Carbon Blue enters Training

Carbon Blue began his training with Donald Baltazar on July 9th, 2009. This is a very exciting time for all the shareholders of Sugar Cane Stables as Carbon has all the tools: Size, Strength, Breeding and professionalism.

The plan will be to have Donald get him fit and begin his gate work. This should take 6-8 weeks and then deliver him directly to Amos Laborde for final preparations before entering his first race.

Our Team is coming together

Last weekend I went down to Lake Charles to visit with our team as well as attend the Louisiana Breeders Association Annual Meeting. While in-town we visited Promissory Kid at Evangeline Downs.(Shown Here relaxing in his stall) His bandages should come off this week and resume training early next week. He looked great and was very happy to see us.

Carbon Blue in his paddock at Cal-Cam Farm is doing spectacular. Our plan will be to deliver him to Amos in Mid-July. We expect big things out of him from day one and all indications is that he will deliver. He's big, He's smart and He's fast! Jason and I are very proud to have secured this outstanding prospect for our shareholders.Chandeluer Islands is our 2 year old filly. She has really blossomed since arriving at Cal-Cam as you can see. (She's a bit heavy around the mid-section) She will begin an early development program in two weeks. This will prepare her for all out race training in about 4 months.

Promissory Kid's Debut

After consultation with Amos Laborde, we decided to give Promissory Kid a few weeks of very light conditioning due to soreness in his legs. His progress has been solid and he is proving to have a competitive spirit. This is quite encouraging and all the more reason to take it slow. With a speedy recovery he could be in a race either late June or July.

Big News on the Way for Sugar Cane Shareholders

Main Street Thoroughbred Group is proud to announce our next racing prospect "Carbon Blue" a two year old colt by Storm Day out of Unfounded Luck by Unbridled Song was purchased today (pending vet examination). He is exceptionally bred and compliments our breeding program very well.

Carbon Blue was recently purchased at the Evangeline 2 year old in training sale the end of March. He will spend a month or two at Cal-Cam Farms and then go into training with Amos Laborde.

This is a great move for our shareholders as we have reduced the training time on our next prospect as well the costs associated with pretrack training and development.

Big Work for Promissory Kid

Promissory Kid impressed everyone today at the Evangeline Training Center working 3 furlongs in 36.54 seconds and ranking 3rd among 17 to cover the same distance. Amos Laborde again had his top jock Curt Leblanc in the irons, Kiddo worked alone and was a bit green coming down the lane. This has prompted Amos to add Blinkers the next time out. We believe Kiddo is improving every time out and has shown the natural ability we all expected. This was a very impressive performance by an outstanding athlete. Promissory Kid Breezes 3 furlongs

Promissory Kid worked 3 furlongs under Curt LeBlanc at the Evangeline Training Center on Tuesday May 5th. This was his first 3 furlong work and once again he performed very professionally Amos Laborde said "he got on the rail, put his head down and came home strong". His next major work will be Wed May 13th at 3 furlongs with the clock running. We continue to be excited about Kiddo's work ethic and professionalism.

A couple of promising developments today for Kiddo, Amos Laborde worked him two furlongs in 25.21 seconds with his top jockey aboard. Kurt LeBlanc one of Louisiana's leading riders and regular jockey for Amos Laborde worked Kiddo over a fast track. Again he did everything asked and performed professionally. The real conditioning begins now and will continue until his first race, hopefully in mid-June.

Certified Copy another Promissory progeny won at Evangeline on Friday night in a Maiden Special Weights race at 5 1/2 furlongs. Thus far this year Promissory has had 7 starters and two winners keeping his second on Louisiana's Second Crop Sire listing.

Promissory Kid had a very productive workout this morning at the Evangeline Training Center. The track was sloppy and Kiddo handled the surface very well. He looked professional on the track and did everything the exercise rider asked. He finished very strong with another horse that was also breezing. His next step will be a 3 furlong timed session in 7-10 days. Stay tuned for more exciting information on our young athlete.

Kiddo Continues to Impress

Just a quick update on Kiddo as he continues his training. After a couple weeks of galloping everyone who has ridden Promissory Kid says the same thing "He does what you ask when you ask"! This is very important as preparation and conditioning are the keys to any successful athlete. If he continues to show improvement a breeze could be on tap in a few weeks. At this point we remain on tap for Kiddo's Maiden attempt in Mid-June. See you in the winners circle.

Promissory Kid moves to Evangeline Downs

All: With the meeting ending at Delta Downs, Amos Laborde will be moving his stable to Evangeline Downs. Promissory Kid did a pupil of job during his first real week of training. Everyone says he does all the right things and is very trainable. His health and attitude are both first class and that is what it takes to perform at the highest level. More to come.

Promissory to gallop 3/24/2009

Our trainer Amos Laborde will send Promissory Kid out for his first gallop under his care at Delta Downs tomorrow. Kiddo got a new set of shoes today and will get his first trip on the Sabine Sand of Delta Downs early in the morning. Please join me and wish him all the best. Promissory Kid Enters Training

Promissory Kid shown here telling everyone he's ready to leave the farm was placed in training on March 14th, 2009. He is the first major racing prospect to compete for Sugar Cane Stables on behalf of Main Street Thoroughbred Group.

Legendary trainer Amos Laborde will guide "Kiddo's" career at the track. We are extremely pleased to have Mr. Laborde and his team working with Promissory Kid. Mr. Laborde is rank nationally with horses finishing in the money and brings 50 years of experience.

Look for Promissory to make his first start early this summer.
